Are you spending your Bitcoin?
« on: August 10, 2014, 11:32:03 AM »

your ads here
I just read this:
http://www.finance-guy.net/finblog/how-will-you-spend-your-bitcoin/10/8/2014

Makes an interesting point.  If we buy stuff with BTC and the company just sells it for cash right away, it's probably not good for the BTC price.

What do you think?  Will shopping with BTC be good or bad for BTC?

It will be good when companies start holding BTC instead of instantly converting it to USD.  I've heard that Overstock keeps a portion of the funds received as BTC.

If we do spend it, we drive the price down today, if we don't it won't grow in the future... tough choice :)

Hi! I think whatever we are going to do with  Bitcoins to keep or spend them, the price will go up and down during some period, maybe within 5 years untill the whole world learn about it. But I'm sure some new generation  coins will  overbeat Bitcoin and their price will probably be higher. Bitcoin  opened new gates for IT developers, showed them a new direction in IT sphere, so they (devs.) won't stop.   That's my opinion but time will show. Nice to meet you and best regards.

I hope the price settles, otherwise it will only be an intermediary for micro transactions...

I re-invest a mine back into mining. As my profit grows I will keep a portion of it.

Irony is that companies who 'accept bitcoin' actually never receive any so do they really accept them?  In reality they are accepting US Dollars from [censored], and [censored] is accepting Bitcoin :)

Hey guys,

I am actually in the process of putting together a survey which will look at what people spend their bitcoin on. I would generally say that people would spend their bitcoins on one of the below:

Computer service/software/hosting
Computer hardware
Food and beverages
Narcotics
Other non-legal goods
Gambling services
Gifts/donations
or bitcoin trading.

Ofcourse Bitcoin is something we need to keep in circulation and not make it depend directly on Dollar or any other currency. Unless this relative comparison is stopped we will continue to see the highs and lows for a long time. Lets start making the commodities priced directly in BTC and no conversion or just a simple one. If we all start putting very low price in BTC and same does all the exchanges together, though not possible practically, the price would suddenly rose, keeping all the Bitcoins haters like governments etc aside..

Good idea as long as the Merchants keep some or all BTC and not exchange it to fiat right away. Or maybe Merchants can keep BTC`s circulating by purchasing to restock inventory with BTC now that would be something to see.
Have a BTC Day!

I agree that we need to use Bitcoin more, otherwise it will never gain traction, but given the current setup used by merchants... spending bitcoin is the same as selling it as they just convert instantly to receive cash

Shopping with BTC is not a bad idea.
