Are you spending your Bitcoin?
« on: August 10, 2014, 11:32:03 AM »

your ads here
I just read this:
http://www.finance-guy.net/finblog/how-will-you-spend-your-bitcoin/10/8/2014

Makes an interesting point.  If we buy stuff with BTC and the company just sells it for cash right away, it's probably not good for the BTC price.

What do you think?  Will shopping with BTC be good or bad for BTC?

It will be good when companies start holding BTC instead of instantly converting it to USD.  I've heard that Overstock keeps a portion of the funds received as BTC.

If we do spend it, we drive the price down today, if we don't it won't grow in the future... tough choice :)

Hi! I think whatever we are going to do with  Bitcoins to keep or spend them, the price will go up and down during some period, maybe within 5 years untill the whole world learn about it. But I'm sure some new generation  coins will  overbeat Bitcoin and their price will probably be higher. Bitcoin  opened new gates for IT developers, showed them a new direction in IT sphere, so they (devs.) won't stop.   That's my opinion but time will show. Nice to meet you and best regards.

I hope the price settles, otherwise it will only be an intermediary for micro transactions...

The only thing I know that's shopping with BTC is good for miners :D
But it might be also good for the price of the bitcoin.

I re-invest a mine back into mining. As my profit grows I will keep a portion of it.

Irony is that companies who 'accept bitcoin' actually never receive any so do they really accept them?  In reality they are accepting US Dollars from [censored], and [censored] is accepting Bitcoin :)

Hey guys,

I am actually in the process of putting together a survey which will look at what people spend their bitcoin on. I would generally say that people would spend their bitcoins on one of the below:

Computer service/software/hosting
Computer hardware
Food and beverages
Narcotics
Other non-legal goods
Gambling services
Gifts/donations
or bitcoin trading.

Ofcourse Bitcoin is something we need to keep in circulation and not make it depend directly on Dollar or any other currency. Unless this relative comparison is stopped we will continue to see the highs and lows for a long time. Lets start making the commodities priced directly in BTC and no conversion or just a simple one. If we all start putting very low price in BTC and same does all the exchanges together, though not possible practically, the price would suddenly rose, keeping all the Bitcoins haters like governments etc aside..

Good idea as long as the Merchants keep some or all BTC and not exchange it to fiat right away. Or maybe Merchants can keep BTC`s circulating by purchasing to restock inventory with BTC now that would be something to see.
Have a BTC Day!

I agree that we need to use Bitcoin more, otherwise it will never gain traction, but given the current setup used by merchants... spending bitcoin is the same as selling it as they just convert instantly to receive cash

Shopping with BTC is not a bad idea.

I have spent every Satoshi.

Long term the price of BTC should go up (when the block reward halves every 4 years), but I am not that patient :)

I agree. While I save a little bitcoin, I also like to spend a little bitcoin. The general public needs to see it being spent in real transactions. That keeps it from being perceived as just another fad bubble / faux investment opportunity. Makes it a real currency.

Just my two cents worth.

Christopher

I think it's more than just spending it, we have to show why it's better to use Bitcoin rather than cash.  everyday people need to see the benefits

Making BTC or other cryptocurrency as an alternative payment for shopping is a good idea. Although, there are still a lot of countries out there that isn't knowledgeable enough about cryptocurrency. But overall, it's a good way to change your shopping experience..

Creio que seja bom pois quanto mais estabelecimentos e sites aceitarem Bitcoin como forma de pagamento, proporcionara um maior crescimento da moeda.

Hey Guys! Ive ran into a lot of people recently, on this forum or others, who just seem to be struggling to find legitimate places to spend their bitcoins. And for good reason. However, my company, Gray and Sons, recently started accepting bitcoin as a method of payment and we're really excited about it. We are offering a wide range of our products, Jewelry: Rings, Watches, Diamond Studs, Necklaces, and more on bit premier.com So far, we have two happy customers. One through bitpremier, and another that we met through bitcointalk.org Anyway, let me know if there are any products you'd like us to post to bitpremier! All of our inventory is on our website grandsons.com  We are a real company in business for 35 years with 20 real employees and a real showroom in Miami Beach Florida with 6 real watchmakers and jewelers with over 150 years of combined experience. Email us! or call+1 (305) 865-0999. (For some reason i can't post my email. Im not so good with these forums! Still learning!!)

I mostly use them to buy gift-cards and use the gift-cards for amazon or ebay stuff. Also, i top up my phone with them. Since recently lots of stores in my country have implemented btc as a payment option so i`m going to use them quite often here.

Funny that i was eager to get to spend btc in an actual real life situation, went to this bar that`s suppose to have btc payment but their system didn`t work.

Hi! when the price of Bitcoin changes so fast, the best option will be to save some part, and to spend or reinvest another part.

Trying to find ways to earn some while also buying some as I can, liking the idea of using those bitcoin debit cards, would make spending them a whole lot easier.

If I can get something cheaper for bitcoin that I can for dollars I would probably just bitcoin to shop. This isn't 100% though because with the price of bitcoin going up just because that item appears to have a cheaper bitcoin price now, doesn't mean it will still be cheaper 1 month from now if the price of bitcoin goes up (if that makes sense). Right now i'm just holding my bitcoin partially because the price is going up, partially because I only own a few dollars of bitcoin ><

yes i do spend them but mainly on game sites and i dont mean gambling im a big mmorpg fan and more are starting to give you ways to pay
even if its through a third party site in bitcoin, the third party sites can be a bit of a rip off but if its not coming out your own pocket and you are claiming micro earnings from faucets then its not so bad, more games and sites should use bitcoin i cant believe they cannot see the potential goldmine of all those bitcoins they could get ,players who would probably never buy or if they do its very little can have a source of expenditure
to use instead of their own money its got to be a win win,if i was a game owner i would be pimping the butt off bitcoin 24/7 :)

It would be a great idea to have btc as major payment option. But i do not think that online major shopping company will take bitcoin payment directly as they already have gift card option available.

Bitcoins are a unique electronic currency. In fact, Bitcoins are coins e-gold can be transferred online, and all transactions are conducted in general and can be tracked. Therefore, transparent system allows users to make transfers without going through banks or exchange. Without tedious registration process and scan the document again - Bitcoin account opening require only one click. In addition, the Bitcoin system based on open-source cryptographic protocols and encryption hacking is impossible.

Bitcoins are digital currency decentralized, so there is not the sole owner. The system is run on servers scattered around the world and is owned by different people. This makes immune to negative factors as well as inflation. Additionally, Bitcoins are increasingly popular around the world; therefore the interest of traders on these instruments is increasing.

Buying products or services with Bitcoin ( or any Crypto) is a very good thing in my books. Getting the trading out of the Crypto world and into general public only expands the education. If the "store owners" hold them, trade them for new stock or cash them, I feel its beneficial to the ecosystem as a whole.

AFAIK, BTC circulating is good for the ecosystem as a whole.
What appears to be closed loop ecosystems; OpenBazaar, Bitify, Bitsquare, is actually good for the BTC ecosystem as a whole because it begins the conditioning process of using BTC as 1st choice method of trade vs fiat.
When we stop trading coin for fiat and only trade it for goods, we will see BTC's true resilient intrinsic value.
iirc, there are plenty examples of bitcoiners living solely off of BTC, with only rarely sometimes having to trade for fiat with all the add ons available as of now, eGifter, Gyft, Uber, Lyft, Airbnb, Purse.io, BitPay Card, etc.

The more BTC is involved into shopping and trading, more it will hold its ground in the long run, despite of the fact it is converted into another currency or is kept in same BTC units.

What do you think?  Will shopping with BTC be good or bad for BTC?

Tone Vays has recently been making been making the same main point.
Quote from: the 2014 article
Selling BTC for US Dollars will cause supply to increase and price to fall.

But that's only true if the buyer doesn't replenish his supply of bitcoin by exchanging fiat for them.

Here's a very plausible scheme that should NOT cause bitcoin to fall:
 • Get a bitcoin debit visa card
 • Exchange some fiat for bitcoin and add to your debit account
 • Spend bitcoin (which the seller exchanges for fiat)
 • Exchange more fiat for bitcoin to replenish your account
Why bother with bitcoin, you ask?  Because while the bitcoin is sitting in your account between spend sprees, it's generally increasing in value.

Yes, I'm spending it depending on how important my bitcoins to be spent. But most of the time, I buy bitcoins in exchange of my GCs rather than spending it from Paxful and other similar sites as well.

yes i do spend them but mainly on game sites and i dont mean gambling im a big mmorpg fan and more are starting to give you ways to pay
even if its through a third party site in bitcoin, the third party sites can be a bit of a rip off but if its not coming out your own pocket and you are claiming micro earnings from faucets then its not so bad, more games and sites should use bitcoin i cant believe they cannot see the potential goldmine of all those bitcoins they could get ,players who would probably never buy or if they do its very little can have a source of expenditure
to use instead of their own money its got to be a win win,if i was a game owner i would be pimping the butt off bitcoin 24/7 :)

This, I spend Bitcoin mostly on dice games.

Without spending Whats the point of keeping anything idle for that matter? Even fiat also there is no point and also any other currency. No point at all. So best is to utilize it and use it.

This is such an interesting topic haha. If I make a similar example, It's like a Luxuary Brand, such as Cartier, Hermes etc. Their values are high because not only for creative design but also not many people can actually afford to purchase these items. If everyone can purchase from them, the value and cost will decrease and standardize. Same as BTC lol

I hate wasting it, so I spend it ONLY when it’s necessary instead of for fun. This is one way forward to extract profits for the future. It has really helped me but more than that, I also keep touch with other options around me. I consider them equally important to make investment on.

And, out of those investments, I find this upcoming ICO, Sphere - sphere.social as the hottest thing! There are several points to make out about them, but the whole setup with such highly professional team, you really loses your heart at that. The potential is easy to know once the concept is understood, so truly makes them special!

Previously, I was not spending Bitcoin, but in last 4-6 months, I have realized that keeping it is beneficial, but using it wisely is even more rewarding. When i say wisely, I mean with the upcoming ICO investments. I myself have used it for investment on with various ICOs. One popular name is Upfiring, it is astonishing with great concept and that obviously makes it rich in potential. So, you can use Bitcoin for dividing your investment around and gain even more.

I do spend Bitcoin but not for shopping, I use it for better earning opportunities, and I believe that only makes sense. It will not really reward us too much just by holding it forever. I like to hold many options, as through that way I can gain. Right now, I am looking into Caviar; it is near presale and looks pretty solid option. So, I use Bitcoin and other to invest into such amazing projects.

I think at this point, from the perspective of the whole market, it makes sense to spend SOME bitcoin. The value of the coin market is pretty high at this point, so the next step seems to be normalizing it as a payment method.

For me, bitcoins are a method of investing. Then it seems to me more convenient to translate them into ordinary currency, which is convenient for you.

Shopping with BTC is the main purpose for which BTC was invented.
But now since its dramatic price rise in the last few years, it has become more of a digital investment
I think use of bitcoin as a currency will flourish after the crazy rally stops and there is more stability in the prices.
Currently people are behind accumulating the currency and  storing it as digital asset.
Obizcoin ICO is developing a BOT to automate business processes for SMEs and Startups. This BOT is developed on AI and Blockchain Technology thus enabling organisation to organize and scale up.

As of now I wont suggest you to not spend your bitcoins. There are plenty of reasons for not spending. The bit coin is emerging cryptocurrency that will have higher price in the future. There is plenty of mining going and lot of investments are going on this currency. The basic reason is that there are only limited coins can be mined. If once all the bitcoins are been mined then the demand will increase and the price will be higher.I am pretty much interested with this concept.

Yeah, I've also heard that the companies that get paid in bitcoin or some other cryptocurrencies take their time when it comes to exchanging them to dollars or other currencies.

As for me - Hasflare is a good platform for bitcoin earning. I am noob in thechnical crypto prosecces, wich touches upon bitcoin, but i know a lot of about cryptografy. And thats enough for me to understend, that crypto currensy has a great potencial. Thets why i've visited bit.ly/2llODTG. Earlyer there was promocodes on registration and payments. Maybe they are still there.
Maybe the one thing, that stop me from higher investments, is a problem of withdrawal in my country. It isn’t that simple, so i have to spent some part of profit on taxes. And what about spendings - as for me, the best thing, to play on rate of bitcoin shares.

If they are converting it right away in EUR or $ then they lose money in time.

1- High fees for changing BTC to $
2-  BTC is in an uptrend and will keep growing so they could earn more money.

The only thing I see in this case is added advantage to Bitcoin, because one down side of Bitcoin is that it is not widely and they are still only accepted by a very small group of online merchants.
In fact some folks have not heard about it, thereby limiting its usage in shopping.
Therefore, continuing to shop with it brings popularity and raise in value.

Hey guys,

I am actually in the process of putting together a survey which will look at what people spend their bitcoin on. I would generally say that people would spend their bitcoins on one of the below:

Computer service/software/hosting
Computer hardware
Food and beverages
Narcotics
Other non-legal goods
Gambling services
Gifts/donations
or bitcoin trading.
I use my bitcoins for trading and some transactions

I did not know about this before but googling for about 3 secs seems to suggest this is still the case. :)

Would have added a link but i guess that's not an option here. ^^

The only thing I know that's shopping with BTC is good for miners :D
But it might be also good for the price of the bitcoin.

I see your point here. The more transactions are being made, the more money miners get for validating those transactions. Bitcoin needs to be spent, but not converted into cash. If bitcoin spending leads to fiat money conversion, bitcoin will continue to lose its value.

This an old thread but I figure I'd reply...I have spent a fair amount of Bitcoin over the years because I was compelled to use it to pay for developers and creative contractors in countries like Argentina, Colombia, and Chile. Until very recently, services that allowed you send FIAT to contractors in these countries did not exist, especially when you're based in the Caribbean. The corresponding US banks have issues sending to certain banks in Latam and so Bitcoin is perfect + people  in the creative class in these markets are quite crypto-savvy.

Shopping with any cryptocurrency will only add to the value of said coin. It adds versatility, reliability, and encourages more trade. Most of the cryptocurrencies on the marketplace today can only be traded on the exchanges and nothing more, which is unfortunate. I've personally experimented with a platform recently called OpenBazaar which is a "free" opensource marketplace similar to eBay or Amazon that accepts Cryptocurrencies. That, in my opinion, is revolutionary - and is merely one example.

I spend a portion but not too much.  I believe if people will do spend much it may drive the price down and it will not be good.

I bought bitcoin particularly with one thing in mind and that is to invest but there are some great sites now accepting cryptocurrencies so I also use a portion of it to get some stuff online.

Cryptocurrencies market need a rock stable coins to break into mainstream. How do you imagine to trade with Btc? It's impossible due to huge rate turbulences. There are already innovative projects like Nebula Network, which rate of exchange is rock stable thanks to emission mechanism tied to their supply. I thing there will be only coins like that in the future.

Yes I do but only a portion of it.  Spending it is good for bitcoin but one should not just spend as it's more wise to invest given the potentials of gain.

Bitcoin will go up in the couple of years for sure as the whole world is interested in it. I think it is not a good idea at the moment to spend the Bitcoin for buying something as its price will go up and you need to save it as long as possible. So, I do not spend it yet.

Spend some and save some.  I've learned that doing the extremes are not good for bitcoin and either we push it down to brink or we go down with it.  tough choice indeed.

Im not sure if Bitcoin is the best way to spending money. There are already innovative alt coins with far lower transaction fee and faster. There are projects like Nebula Network which rock stable rate thanks to emission mechanism tied to their supply. BTC is not the future.

I have seen bitcoin as payment option in online word increased exponentially from last year. It has also entered in real world shopping. It is just a matter of time that it will be adopted by masses.

I thought, many thought. Remember at least the statements of John McAfee.
The developers and the first bitcoin enthusiasts who promoted the technology to the masses since 2011 even then said that bitcoin would reach $ 100,000. Let me remind you that this was in 2011-2013 the price of bitcoin varied in the region of $ 10-1000. Now it is much easier to believe in this, of course, then it was insanity.

and yesterday I found one amazing social media that is only for crypto users and one guy that was registered in that social media helped me a lot with a fundamental and technical analysis... By the way, the social media is called "cryptogether"

If you're a big fan of Deepweb, then spending your Bitcoin won't be a problem, as it serves as a major device for exchange in every platform. Also, there are a lot of credible companies currently accepting Bitcoin, mostly online shops... and services. I am currently not spending mine, storing 'em for rainy days.

I am not spending my coins yet as I am looking for a long term target of $30000. I think the bitcoin is on its way to reach the milestone at the end of this year as it did at the end of last year. Do you people expect the same as I am expecting?

Definitely good in the long term when Bitcoin is more established as a form of currency for transactions and payments.
Right now it's probably a matter of time before the Bitcoin payment infrastructure grows more sophisticated to support a widespread use of BTC.

Also, if you thought of advertising your business on a crypto-based advertising platform then Adconity may best suit your needs. Visit the website for more info.

Yes i'm spending withArabian Escapes You can also buy a house with bitcoin, and it's not as hard as you may think. You just need one thing: For the buyer and seller to agree on exchanging bitcoin for the property.

I think the country that is the first to fully enter the crypto currency as a means of payment will receive the maximum profit. For example, Belarus, a small country in the center of Europe, has already completely legalized crypto-currencies.
You can conduct all operations: input, output, exchange, purchases - and not pay taxes. It remains for the business to enter payments through the cryptobutton

One got to be incredibly wise with where the Bitcoin is spent, as if we put it in random investment, then we could suffer significantly, so got to watch it out. I don’t do anything extra-ordinary or special but simply keep my eyes open to latest developments and stories.

One such stuff to note was the recently done 17th China Internet Conference, as a lot of positive came out of it and as a Crypto lover, it is something that is to be very happy with.

I mostly prefer not using it much at all. I believe it is BETTER to save it, unless you really require it but in most scenarios, you will not require it. I feel that value at present is very low and it is meant to rise. With comparison to 2014 and 2018 year, it will reflex the scenario that might be turning up, so a lot to see and play out carefully. If we work on this part accurately, then we could be in for serious gains!

Ideally everyone should spend a little his bitcoin as this will increase circulation of it in the market. With increase in circulation, the legitimacy will increase.

If you do not need funds for now, it's definitely worth keeping. It also depends on what price the currency was bought.

I've heard that Overstock keeps a portion of the funds received as BTC. spending bitcoin is the same as selling it as they just convert instantly to receive cash

I spend most of the money that I earned in bitcoin in sustaining my daily needs. I dont usually spend my money to buy the things that I only want. If I will buy things, I make sure that it is really important and I limit myself in buying the things I want.

I have spent Bitcoin on a a few transactions such as pizza or as an investment. i think Bitcoins can hold value in a similar fashion to gold, especially if you have been holding for a long time.

Hi! I think whatever we are going to do with  Bitcoins to keep or spend them, the price will go up and down during some period, maybe within 5 years untill the whole world learn about it. But I'm sure some new generation  coins will  overbeat Bitcoin and their price will probably be higher. Bitcoin  opened new gates for IT developers

Regarding current prices it's only wise to avoid selling of Bitcoin and wait for a price increase.

Personally, if I think it is possible that you prefer to do it that way, companies with cryptocurrencies would earn much more than with USD.

It will work in the future if everyone starts to take actions in order to increase the value of BTC, in other ways with the value lower than $5000 it won't work

We live in a society where only the privileged few have a chunk of the paper money. Bitcoin is a great opportunity for the ordinary man in the society to break even from the unjust financial system of this world
I was bidding on a pair audio loudspeaker kit on ebay that were grabbed.

It will be good when companies start holding BTC instead of instantly converting it to USD.  I've heard that Overstock keeps a portion of the funds received as BTC.
This is all due to the instability of Bitcoin in the market. Today, bitcoin can have a value of $ 1000, and tomorrow at $ 1. So there are enough risks for business even without cryptocurrency volatility.

I almost bought a $60,000 new car this week but then I remembered it might we worth 3/4 million in a few years if bitcoin goes to $50k so I bought more BTC instead.

Use your BTC for trading cryptos or forex - this case you're not influenced by the price changes that much. Well, assuming you manage to grow your total via trading.

In my opinion, the growth of Bitcoin is constrained by the never opened Bakkt exchange. As soon as it is launched, there will be a large influx of investments from institutional investors. It is also worth paying attention to the fact that recently at CME there has been an increase in trading activity with futures on BTC, therefore, an increase in interest among large market participants.

Will shopping with BTC be good or bad for BTC?

I think, until shopping in Bitcoin will not be widespread on a global scale, there can be no influence of shopping on the price of Bitcoin. With regards to me, I absolutely do not care what to pay in cash or non-cash or bitcoin.

Would like to spend it but can't find places to spend them.

Strange that wallets like Ledger would roll out options to spend on the go when most users can barely find a place to spend them.

Right now i'm hodling my btc, i don't think it's the right time to spend it on anything to be honest. I have a rule which says that if i'm not certain in 100% of spending btc on something, i don't do it - i'd rather buy something with altcoins.

The moment companies will start holding Btc instead of instantly converting it into fiat, that will mean that Btc is not just a currency but that it has become money

there are not so many things you can buy with bitcoin so far, but i buy alot of things with telos coin on kryptobay.eu

in any case, the mass use of other crypto currencies will be less than the mass use of Bitcoin

If the btc were more stable, the companies would not convert it into dollars. Companies that are engaged in trade have one goal -  profit, and they are not interested in keeping their money in btc.

There is a foundation like South American Initiative that is accepting bitcoin as a donation through givetrack, you can find it, this one is speccially working in Venezuela.

I try to hold my coins, but from time to time I do shopping online using Bitcoin, this is very comfortable and nice way to spend crypto. I noticed people grudgingly use their BTC as payment method, I don't know why

Hmmm. At the very beginning of the BTC moning and trading were just haven. I lived for 2 years in Thailand due to these two. But all the activities I resort to during the past year(I mean BTC activities*) are gambling and donating to my dealer. I won't leave the dealers number here but here's a pretty good casino https://www.bitcasinopay.com/

BTC as major payment option is a holy grail of most of us right :). Unfortunately I don't think that online major shopping company will take bitcoin payment directly and not liquefy it to fiat straight away...

I did. I paid my insurance using BTC two years ago, LOL! I did exchange it first to fiat since the insurance company doesn't accept BTC as a mode of payment yet. I do hope that BTC will be accepted and used as one of mode of payments in everything we buy in the future.

I just checked the rate a while ago and it is not worth selling now. I think the value rose up two days ago, I did exchange some as I used it to buy BXK Token for Bitbook betting. Wait until the value rises again.

Don't spend BTC. Wait until it finds its fair market value (I think at least mid 6 figures USD because that is about the market cap for gold)

Mostly I spend on the exchange.  Already today, many people pay for purchases with cryptocurrency.  I am sure that in the near future payment by cryptocurrency will be more popular than non-cash.

In our opinion, it is best to stand still and accumulate little bits of Bitcoin. Average-in the price is probably one of the best tactics if you purchase Bitcoins throughout a certain period of time.
Bitcoin certainly has a limited supply, therefore it may worth a gamble to see what the price is like in several years, maybe decades :)

I don't spend even one satoshi  8)

Accumulate Bitcoins in all possible ways. In future, you'll be able to buy lots of cool stuff for one Bitcoin. In my opinion, this is matter of next few years. Getting rid of online gold now is a bad idea.
