MTgox hacked
« on: March 22, 2013, 08:50:36 AM »
My account at Mtgox got hacked last night.
the account is now empty.
has anyone else's account also been hacked? does anyone have any tips on what to do next or is my money just gone?
it's shocking that the security on mtgox is not as good as it should be. Are they liable for the account? does anyone know if they can be held responsible?

Yes i have. they say i need to report it to the police and they will cooperate once they receive a request from them.
they will not give me my money back.

i'm not going to report it. there is no point. what are belgian police going to do in this international matter ...

i replied them that they are to blame for providing an insecure system. they haven't responed tot that statement for the moment. they advice using the yubikey. Probably right about that one, but using the standard system shouldn't be flawed. I use credentials there that i don't use anywhere else.

The hackers took the money in the account and first placed a market order buying bitcoins. after that, they transferred the bitcoins into their own wallet.

Take a look a BTC pricing the last few days. since about 19th of march prices increased much faster then they usually do.

So my thoughts are that i'm not the only one and that the increase might have something to do with the hackers first buying btc at market price. if i'm right (and that's a big IF), then at some point these people will want money for their BTC. At that point prices will fall.

Don't mean to cause any paranoia or panic here. it just might also be that i'm only one of the few. in that case, my reasoning is flawed.

time will tell i guess.

How do you mean "hacked"..?

Did you reveal your information to someone you shouldn't have?

Or have you registered with any "unusual" bitcoin related websites recently?
