What is your best Bitcoin Security practices?

From bitcoin.org:
Quote
Like in real life, your wallet must be secured. Bitcoin makes it possible to transfer value anywhere in a very easy way and it allows you to be in control of your money. Such great features also come with great security concerns. At the same time, Bitcoin can provide very high levels of security if used correctly.Always remember that it is your responsibility to adopt good practices in order to protect your money.

No online wallet, no funds on exchanges, only use decentralized exchanges like Shapeshift, no hardware wallet (you really don't know what's going on there).
Firewall outgoing connection monitoring.
Get rid of bloatware, telemetry and unnecessary processes.

Store bitcoin in wallet and not exchange platforms. Save your secret keys on a hard drive, external if possible. Install a strong antivirus on your system to prevent hack. Do not save passwords on your computer.

The best option is a hardware or paper wallet

My advice is to use the official Bitcoin Core client. You will have least problems with forks and you can support the Bitcoin network.

Absolutely agree with this, most sensible way by far, in my humble opinion. There is never total security but it's the closest approach.

Yes. In an extreme case, for coins for which there is not yet a wallet, you can use a paper wallet

Just reading on bitcoinwiki, it says that to date there have been no verifiable incidents of Bitcoins stolen from hardware wallets and much of the time, the software is open source, allowing a user to validate the entire operation of the device. so... ;)

A really important point is not to operate on a public Wifi....there are already several cases where hackers have stolen bitcoins on open unsecure wifis.

Paper wallets or hardware wallets is one way to go, but once lost, it's gone. Some online wallets such as SpectroCoin have 2FA for logins and for each attempt of a transaction. It also notifies you whenever a new IP address logs in to your account and stores the cryptocurrencies in an offline (cold storages). It provides a very secure environment for all users and promotes safety for such an era.

But access to the wallet can be obtained from the network, it is not disconnected?

Below are some of the best bitcoin security practices:
 • You yourself are responsible for the protection of bitcoins possessed by you. Do not depend on others.
 • Make use of multi-signature wallet for better protection.
 • Your private key should be saved at two to three different locations like paper wallet, hard drive or USB. So, if it lost from one place, you have a backup and you do not lose your bitcoins.
 • For your account on cryptocurrency exchange platforms and wallets, do not use the same email address and passwords as your other mailing and social media accounts. Use distinct addresses and strong passwords.
 • Never post on social media about your wallet information. Keep it a top secret.
 • Always use a two factor authentication.
 • Install a good antivirus software on devices through which you trade bitcoins.
 • Store your confidential data (private key) in encrypted format if possible.

By the way saw the news that multi-signature in some wallets have already learned to hack

I would agree that these are some great practices, remember it is not crypto if you do not have hold of your private key.

Multiple-Factor Authentication on several levels of a website or blockchain go a very long way. But yes, I'm also in agreement that Cold Storage is the way to go.

Yes, as long as you are able to log in to your account, you will always have access to your wallet and be able to deposit/withdraw from it without limits set (speaking of our services here). Maybe it is different in other platforms.

When using an online service such as a bitcoin exchange: Enable 2-Factor-Authentication (like Google authentication) on your account!

Always have direct control of your bitcoins (private keys). If you don’t have the keys, you don’t control the bitcoins.
Make regular backups of your bitcoin wallet!
Also, the best security practices would be using a hybrid exchange during transactions and  BetCoin offers a hybrid exchange platform.

I think converting your wallet to paper wallet by storing it in a cold storage is the best practice I have done so far for making my wallet safe. I also change the passwords on regular basis which is also a good habit. What are your thoughts traders?

My best bitcoin security practice would be to store bitcoin in a wallet and not exchange platforms. Save your secret keys on a hard drive, external if possible. And most importantly, do not save passwords on your computer. Apart from trading and mining bitcoin, if you are looking to advertise your business on a crypto-friendly advertising platform, then Adconity is the place for you as Adconity is a user-friendly crypto-based advertising platform for advertisers and publishers with competitive pricing options. For ICOs specifically, the KYC and ID verification methods are a great method to avoid frauds which are prevalent in Crypto industry.

The important thing for ICOs is to get kyc verified. Different ICOs like KICKICO and Swiss Alps Mining have partnered with Shufti Pro an ID verification company to do their ICOs.

KYC and AML for ICOs is the best security protection available in the market. I would suggest newbies to watchout for that this will not be a fraud.

To be fair, the biggest security is when you are aware of all the developments that work around the field. IF you sure of that then you are sure to get plenty of rewards but if you don’t then it automatically puts you in major risk.

I make it my priority to keep myself updated with all the [censored]-increases-daily-limits/]latest news and updates, which really works right for me and brings me a lot of rewards.

The very important security practise is a strong password which is not used on any other website or account. This is the simplest rule, right? But still not everyody understand it's power.

What is your best Bitcoin Security practices?

From bitcoin.org:
How are People Losing their Bitcoin to Hackers? To date, no one has been able to compromise the core Bitcoin network. Every major Bitcoin or cryptocurrency hack exploited vulnerabilities in third-party applications, crypto exchanges, or insecure crypto web sites. Third-party applications, crypto exchanges, and web sites make it easier for people to interact with the Bitcoin network.

No online wallet, no funds on exchanges, only use decentralized exchanges like Shapeshift, no hardware wallet (you really don't know what's going on there).
Firewall outgoing connection monitoring.
Online wallets, or e-wallets, allow you to buy, sell, and store your Bitcoin. If your e-wallet provider is compromised, your account’s password and private key would be at risk, and hackers would be able to transfer money out of your account. This isn’t a vulnerability in the Bitcoin network, but in the third-party application.

Store bitcoin in wallet and not exchange platforms. Save your secret keys on a hard drive, external if possible. Install a strong antivirus on your system to prevent hack. Do not save passwords on your computer.
It’s unquestionably an eventful time in the world of cryptocurrency and blockchain. If you want to participate in the space, just make sure you’re willing to accept the associated risk and to minimize that risk by doing everything you can to secure your digital assets and identity.

Always backup to a secured external hard drive!
Your computer or a mobile phone may break down anytime and as a result, you won't be able to access your coins. Coins that can't be accessed are considered lost forever.

My advice is to use the official Bitcoin Core client. You will have least problems with forks and you can support the Bitcoin network.

Hey,

The best and most secure way is to use encryption to hide information, and if can handle a piece of paper then that is the safest way because devices can are hackable if not now might be possible in future.

I also think same any piece of technology can be hacked in not today might be in the future, but a piece of paper is safer and impossible to hack from any remote location..

When it comes to the safety of Bitcoin, one needs to consider the following safety rules: -
1. If you are using online services like bitcoin exchange make sure that you use a strong password which is harder to guess by anyone. You can also make it more safe with 2-Factor-Authentication.

2. Directly control your bitcoins through private keys. Never share your private keys with anyone. Keep it safely. If unknowingly you have lost your private key always keep a paper wallet with you safely to access your crypto.
3. Backup your bitcoin wallet regularly.
4. Always check that you are logging in your wallet by opening the link directly in the browser, otherwise you can fall victim to phishing attack.

5. Can use Hardware wallets like the Trezor to keep your bitcoin safe and secure.

I think this is a great summary of many things you need to consider for security of your coins. I also think the private keys are a big aspect of security and really keeping them private is very important, if not anyone can have access to your coins... And I got the impression that a paper wallet really is the safest option for choosing a wallet. Also it might make sense to use a laptop that you only use for cryptos and to use Linux on that...
don't take yourself so seriously, no one else does

I think the best way to secure your bitcoin is by using a good user authentication toolkit for your electronic wallet. Have you heard of Trust Sum&Substance? I found information about them here:
Trust Sum&Substance’ user authentication toolkit for ICOs to ensure regulations are met and your company is able to stay in compliance while protecting sensitive data. This program can be used with money transfers, electronic wallets and other financial tools to prevent identity theft or unauthorized access of private data. This program works with web and mobile applications and determines authenticity of documents while complying with local and global regulations. Data is encrypted and stored separately from the decryption keys while constant monitoring ensures regular checks are performed on all aspects of the system. This system provides bank-level security while ensuring you continue to achieve maximum conversions. Learn more about Sum&Substance SaaS toolkit through the company website subsum.com or email info@sumsub.com for more information.

You should learn about the different types of services designed to keep your balance online. Many online exchange places and wallets have experienced security flaws. Generally they still do not provide certainty and security that exist for use as a storage like a bank. Instead, you can use other Bitcoin Wallet services. If not, you should choose this type of service carefully. In addition, it is highly recommended to select services that use two-factor authentication.

t is always good to have a back up, however everything is hackable spending some time with internet that connects your cold storage to the network might rise some doubts that your holdingBTC is at risk.

I`ve read so many times that i should never keep my cryptos on an exchange wallet. I don`t really understand why it is so important. Big exchanges guarantee high standards of security. CoinDeal for instance stores funds in cold wallets and 90% of funds are stored OFFLINE and are out of reach of the computer system. It prevents situations like private key losses, programming errors or system failure.

One of the best practice in terms of securing your email account or your wallet is to setup a Two Factor Authentication, a code that is needed to login into your account besides your own password that will be sent through text message to your mobile phone, email address etc. another thing is when your copying your private keys don't save it online or in notepad, write it on a piece of paper.

The best practice to secure your crypto money - is to think and check twice before making any transaction. Most mistakes that were made by me were made when I was making my decisions in hurry!

Use a hardware or paper wallet to keep your Bitcoin in an offline location. This will protect it from hackers.

In addition, putting your Bitcoin into an IRA would be ideal for maximum security and insurance.

Definitely learn how to properly make a secure bitcoin investment.

For starters, you will need to learn how and where you can purchase Bitcoin. A reliable exchange such as Gemini or Paxful is a good start.

Second, you will need to grab a good cold wallet. A hardware wallet is the most secure and versatile option for investors. Savvy investors can start a Cryptocurrency IRA or 401k and/or make an insured cash investment. Personally, I have a Ledger Nano S from the Black Friday promotion.

Well for starters, you need to have the Bitcoin wallet secure, then everything else like investment comes into picture. Unfortunately, the majority I know don’t have much info about the wallet stuff. They just follow what everyone does so there is no further input by themselves, which creates all the trouble.

So, we need to first understand that concept, and only after we are done with it that we could move towards betterment of things in terms of safety/security, and eventually investment.

Elegro wallet is amazing product. Best of it’s kind. Once registered, I gain the full package of tools to work with crypto. I also think it is great solution for a merchant who wants to increase his range of customers as many people own some crypto nowadays.

I use the default Bitcoin client BitcoinCore. Ok, you need to download the whole blockchain (about 200 GB) but that's worth it.

It’s unquestionably an eventful time in the world of cryptocurrency and blockchain. If you want to participate in the space, just make sure you’re willing to accept the associated risk and to minimize that risk by doing everything you can to secure your digital assets and identity.

Blockchain distributes the same information to every user (or node) on the blockchain network. When you make a change, the network validates it and then miners (nodes rewarded for updating the blockchain) add that transaction into a new block, which is then added to the blockchain. HighBank believes that Bitcoin’s dominance will diminish in the future as more players join the crypto marketplace. Notably, Ethereum—a Blockchain unveiled in 2015 by Vitalik Buterin—has demonstrated its potential to change the entire structure of crypto markets via its smart contracts capability.

using Bitcoins for international payments is cheaper since they are not tied to any country and is not subject to any government regulation. Small businesses love the fact that there are no fees with using this crypto currency and that’s why you can find a lot of them using Bitcoins in doing business now

You can follow my suggestions to keep safe your bitcion or other crypto currency. Keep separate wallets. If the wallet you use for spending bitcoin also contains your entire bitcoin holdings, your savings will be vulnerable to various types of abuse. Don't keep your savings in a web wallet. Protect your privacy. Never share your private keys with anyone else. If your wallet address (ie. your public key) is the equivalent of your bank account number, then your private wallet key is your PIN. Once you have a file containing your wallet keys, you can put this anywhere: flash drive, optical disk, portable hard drive, on paper, etc.
Best Regards,
The HighBank Team

I've rented 2 security boxes and I put 12 words from my seed phrase in each.  I also use a 25th work phrase as a precaution.

Do not save passwords on your computer.

Until my colleague's computer was hacked, I kept all the passwords in the browser. Now I write everything down in a notebook.

No online wallet, no funds on exchanges, only use decentralized exchanges like Shapeshift, no hardware wallet (you really don't know what's going on there).
Firewall outgoing connection monitoring.

why do you think hardware wallets are a problem?

Yes. In an extreme case, for coins for which there is not yet a wallet, you can use a paper wallet

I have so much about this paper wallet. Guess I have to get one and have an experience of storing my coins in it. I normally nbump into coins that has wallet already, coins like the Veil coin but I still have many others I need to secure with a high level of wallet.

One of the best practice in terms of securing your email account or your wallet is to setup a Two Factor Authentication, a code that is needed to login into your account besides your own password that will be sent through text message to your mobile phone, email address etc.
I was bidding on a pair audio loudspeaker kit on ebay that were grabbed.

Definitely this is a very good option. I have had to get a lot of text message about a log in attempt on one of my accounts from an unknown source. What baffled me is that the person tried not just once but many times. Whether cold storage or hardware wallet  we all m need to safeguard our wallet. I personally consider projects with good and secure wallet, just like the veil project.

Honestly.. First thing I always do is to secure with 2fa and email. Securing with just email isn't always cool though cos hackers can get to ur email. Then again, using a wallet with good and trusted security features is of great importance. Veil privacy coin has all that combined.

It is necessary for everyone to make use of 2fa on their wallets either mobile or desktop wallets, or an exchange. The mistake of not doing this made me lose some of my hard earned Veil and btc  that I had deposited in an exchnage wallet to scammers

Awesome! HAHAHA!

I only have a little altcoins on Binance and uses 2FA for security. The wallet I use is on my phone, so far no history of being lost as I always keep it with me.

First, setup 2 step authentication.

Never enable 2FA. It allows you to use your phone/phone call or a text to verify you identity. This give hackers a great opportunity.

Enable IP whitelisting and wallet whitelisting.

My tips for keeping your Bitcoins secure are:
1.   Don’t ever share the private key of your Bitcoin with anyone, not even with your family or friends.
2.   You should not reprocess the addresses of previous Bitcoins.
3.   Keep yourself away from posting your private information like your email address, home address or your phone number on any social media platform.
4.   Try to maintain your computer anti-virus up to date always and never download malware applications.
5.   Constantly keep a backup of your wallet and store that offline backup in a fireproof safe at your home.
6.   Always use 2FA security feature everywhere.

I only have a few on my wallet so I haven't gone extreme yet in protecting it.
I'm using a phone app now where I could buy and sell crypto in a flash but not planning to put more money that I could lose in the end.
So far, one of my security practices is never lose my phone and never click unknown links to be safe.

Bitcoin network itself is secured by cryptography. Users or traders can only practice to make their accounts secure which they use to trade their Bitcoins and where they store them. Traders should never share their private keys with anyone not even with their family or friends.

I use the application on my phone for bitcoin, like many other users. Therefore, I recommend securing your smartphone. There are various ways to do this, one of the most effective is software testing. You can read more about this on this blog - http://safenessmobile.com

The best defense against hacker attacks and scammers is their own caution. For example, I only work with time-tested exchanges, exchangers and wallets. Any protection you can come up with can be hacked.

I keep my bitcoin either on a hardware wallet i.e. Trezor or on a secure exchange like Paxful (with 2FA enabled).

Thus far, I have never been hacked and have kept all of my bitcoins safe using these methods.

No online wallet, no funds on exchanges, only use decentralized exchanges like Shapeshift, no hardware wallet (you really don't know what's going on there).

I agree that having a secure wallet is key to security. If you are hodling, a cold wallet is the best and safest option. Also, as others have mentioned, always keep your money in a wallet and not on the exchange.

I consider using a hardware wallet. While e-wallets are more convenient, they are much more susceptible to basic phishing, social engineering, or malware attacks that trick you into revealing your password and private key.

The best way to keep your bitcoin safe is to use keep it in a crypto wallet. It not only help you keep your bitcoin safe but also useful when doing crypto trading.

There are a lot of crypto wallets available in the market but I will suggest you go with ExoCrow, a digital currency wallet, and platform where merchants and consumers can transact with new digital currencies like bitcoin, ethereum, and litecoin.

I have personally used it and made a lot of money using it. the best part is that my cryptocurrency is safe in their wallet and I don't have to worry about its security.

Indeed, I was very pleasantly surprised with the security level in the blockchain site.  and the customer support they have is great as well.  Patient, assertive, and amicable!  totally in love.

However, IMHO I would also recommend metamask.  It is quite versatile.  Though there IS a problem, the google authenticator app does not work always with this wallet.  So I would use it to move currency to and from so that you do not go about with FIAT currency around.  such as CC or DC

Best security practice with bitcoin is storage in some kind of cold wallet, that is a wallet that is not connected to the internet. Beyond that a physical back up of the seed phrase stored in a safe place... the safest of places likely being a safety deposit box at a bank.

I think adding an extra layer of security while conducting business online is definitely going to help with keeping your wallet safe and that's what people need to do for keeping their digital footprints off grid. No footprints - no one can follow you.

A paper wallet will not save you from theft during use. The keys can be intercepted. The payment address can be substituted. In any case, an hardware wallet is better.

I think there's no need to rush into bitcoin right now. Because it's not stable. I want to buy crypto. As long as it's at an affordable price. It might take off soon from some news. Or one person's activity on the internet. It's been a long time since I've seen one person have such an impact on so many people. It's even frightening. I don't think it's hard to keep bitcoin safe. It just takes a good wallet to get started. And then you just save it up. I also use different exchanges for other cryptocurrencies. It's interesting.

Great tip! By no means should one store the information on a piece of paper randomly in the house or in electronic notes or anything like that.

Like someone said previously in this topic, storing it written down in a safe in a bank would be a good way of storing it. Alternatively, if you can get a good safety deposit box for your home, that's a good option, too.

Cold storage (or offline wallets) is one of the safest methods for holding bitcoin, as these wallets are not accessible via the Internet, but hot wallets are still convenient for some users.

Yes but i mean on what material do you storage it? It`s not paper obviously.

The place of storage itself is not the paper, you are right, the coins are stored on a software program. It is only the access information  that is stored on paper.

Love Bitcoin but I'm still getting used to it, I'm going to keep some of these suggestions in mind to be sure that mine is secure. I feel relatively safe using it already but would feel better knowing it's extra secure, especially as I invest more into it.

It's true that Bitcoin has a lot of potential and a lot of risks at the same time. In my opinion, building a portfolio in which you have both low-risk and high-risk assets is the best way to invest money.

A lot of people store it on just a piece of paper, then they put that paper into a safety deposit box in a bank. That's pretty secure. I have also heard of people memorizing it and not storing it physically but that sounds pretty risky.

No online wallet, no funds on exchanges, only use decentralized exchanges like Shapeshift, no hardware wallet (you really don't know what's going on there).

Digital currency owners typically store their currency as a key with passwords in a digital wallet, often on a mobile device. Since these forms of storage are still technically online, there are inherent risks, which can be reduced by moving cryptocurrency offline. Referred to as “cold storage,” using an offline vault or wallet could reduce the potential risk of holding digital currency.

Hello, my name is eva and I am a trader. I mostly use a cold wallet to store my cryptocurrencies. It is true that for transactions I use a warm wallet because it is more comfortable and I do transactions regularly.
However, when it comes to storing them I use the cold wallet, especially because it is not hackable. I feel safer this way

For the hot wallet I use Binance, for the cold one I use material bitcoin because I heard very good reviews and so far so good.

I recommend using HSM Access (https://helenix.com/hsm-access/) as a security practice. HSM Access provides a comprehensive solution to enhance the security and advancement of your online payment process through the adoption of Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) principles mandated by PSD2, all in one place.

Hey there! If you're looking to keep your Bitcoin secure, there are a few practices you should follow. First, always use a reputable wallet and enable two-factor authentication. Second, keep your private keys safe and don't share them with anyone. And finally, be cautious when using public Wi-Fi or accessing your wallet on shared devices. Stay safe out there!

I can provide you with some general best practices for securing your Bitcoin:

   1. Use a reputable wallet: Choose a wallet from a well-known and established provider to reduce the risk of using a malicious or unsecure wallet.

   2. Use two-factor authentication: Adding an extra layer of security by enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) can help protect your Bitcoin from unauthorized access.

   3. Use a strong password: Use a strong, unique password that is not easy to guess or brute-force.

   4. Keep your private keys offline: Keep your private keys in a hardware wallet or paper wallet to reduce the risk of being hacked online.

   5. Keep your software up-to-date: Regularly update your wallet software and any other software or operating systems that you use to keep your Bitcoin secure.

   6. Use a VPN: When using a public Wi-Fi network, connect through a virtual private network (VPN) to ensure that your internet connection is secure.

   7. Be cautious of phishing scams: Be vigilant and never click on links or download attachments in suspicious emails, texts or messages.

    8. Diversify your portfolio: It is generally recommended to diversify your investments and not put all your eggs in one basket, which means not investing all your money into Bitcoin.

Remember that these are general best practices and always conduct thorough research and consider consulting with a professional before making any financial decisions.

Enable two-factor authentication (2FA): Utilize 2FA whenever possible to add an extra layer of security to your Bitcoin accounts. This typically involves providing a second form of verification, such as a code generated by a mobile app, in addition to your password.

All passwords are only on a flash drive, preferably encrypted, and also never write information in messengers, even to yourself and do not connect wallets to unverified sites.

I would recommend storing in a hardware wallet. Hardware wallet is a type of cold wallet, providing one of the most secure ways to keep cryptocurrencies. It is an external, physical device that stores your private keys to keep your crypto assets safe from online threats.

You can only use it when connected to a computer or mobile and only transactions authorized by you gets approved.

Choose a hardware wallet that is open-sourced such as OneKey as it means that the code is transparent, and also to have your private key stored in a separate microchip, which makes your hardware wallet truly offline and secure.

The best option is a hardware or paper wallet

Only if the paperwallet is locked in a safe tbh.
