Hello there

I am a new to the hardware scene myself too but I can answer your question about mining easily with no hardware outlay, but you will not get rich. There is a very easy to use  pool, and software which you can download that allows you to try Cpu, Gpu and Asic Block eruptor if you have them. There are several different coins to mine and as I said easy software to use no fiddling around with settings.  I have used the site myself for many weeks just to dip my toe into mining as you are asking about.  Always ensure you have the latest hardware drivers installed for you PC and Opencl for Intel, Amd  and Nvidia help.  As I said you wont get rich and most likely spend more cash on electric than you earn unless you have high hashing hardware but at least you can try it without having to buy expensive hardware. Here is my referral link I get a small thank you if you use it to join and I hope you will.  https://www.eobot.com/new.aspx?referid=24289

Hope it helps  :)
