Fork or Race condition handling by the network

If someone could answer please: If the fork happened and one group lost as the next block was found by the other group. Will not the group which lost be again lagging behind to find the next block as it wasted time and energy in the wrong previous block. And supplimentry, since the winning block was kept in the rack after it was known to the losing group,  will not they do parallel hashing on atleast two blocks at the same time to not lag behind the race to win the next block.
