Coronavirus Outbreak Hurt Macau Casinos’ Revenue
« on: March 13, 2020, 04:33:38 PM »
The coronavirus is hitting all industries globally and the gambling industry is no different. Usually, the Lunar New Year is a busy period for Macau casinos, but this year, due to the outbreak, those businesses are suffering significant losses.
While Macau is the only place where Chinese people can gamble legally, travel restriction and natural fear of infection is getting in the way of locals visiting the area. People have found a workaround to continue feeding their gambling passions by opening online casinos for Chinese players, even though that practice is banned. Apparently online gambling is 90% up compared to the Lunar New Year period in 2019.
