Newly Newb'd

So first off, an introduction... You can call me by my handle MisstriX but my name is Petra. And if you want to get old school and medieval on ya with the 'ol A/S/L *oh dial-up, how you frustrated me* 29 / F / SoCal.

I am a newb who registered because I want to learn everything I can about all dark net pertaining information. Hacking has always interested me and i figured, hey i'm almost 30... if I wait too much longer I will reach that age where any new technology is incomprehensible and i'm yelling at kids to get off my damn lawn!1. I am in the process of trying to install Kali Linux for the past 3 days, I am trying to make a boot-able Kali Linux on my WD My Passport an I am running into issue after issue...     A) is it even possible to do that install? I know I have read the usb instructions
     B) Which is a better method, a Dual System Boot on my laptop or installing on the WD?

This is my system stats: Windows 8.1 (HATE IT but I don't know if the kinks have been worked out of Windows 10)

Processor:          AMD A8-5550M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 2.10 GHz
RAM:                 8.00 GB (7.21 usable)
System Type:     64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
No pen no touchI also have;         16GB USB                           WD: My Passport (which is now being called Umano E: for some reason) basically a little hard drive.I would prefer to have it on the Umano but I am unsure what format needs to be done, yet alone the rest of the options. In the FORMAT WINDOW...- capacity option of 78.6 MB (cannot be altered)- File system - need to choose NTSF, FAT (default), FAT32, or exFat (?)- Allocation unit size - need to choose Default, 2048 bytes, 4096 bytes, 8192, 16 kilobyts- There is a button to restore device defaults- Text Entry box for Volume Label

Can someone please advise on the proper settings for each option?

Again - jut trying to create a boot-able version of Kali either on USB but pref WD MY PASSPORT.

Thanks and I'm glad I found such a knowledgeable community! PLEASE HELP!!

MisstriX
