Cloudmining.website---Possible scam????
« on: December 09, 2014, 01:31:58 PM »
I sent an inquiry to badbitcoins.org asking about cloudmining.website.  I have already invested 20 ghs in the company today and thought that I should see if they are "legit" before I invested more.  I got a response from badbitcoins.org saying to avoid them at this time.

I followed up asking if I could post their email portion of the email they send me on forums I belonged to.  This is the response I got:

By all means share that info, the less people that get taken in, the better. I’ve contacted the site through bitcoinforum requesting any proof of genuine mining, and will allow a reasonable time for a response before issuing a wider warning. We are normally satisfied with a current screenshot of the mining controlller / interface as this is a simple piece of evidence to supply, a simple printscreen, but is very hard to forge, especially for any disingenuous operator.

This is a copy of the original response I got from them:

Thanks for the enquiry re cloudmining.website

I’ve just had a look at this site, and immediately a lot of stuff just doesn’t add up.

Mailserver is in Germany, so this is probably the true location of the sites admin.

This operation is simply not known about in the quite close world that is cloudming or large scale hosted mining.

There is no SSL certificate https:// secure login, this means that any data you meay send or submit to the site is open to packet sniffing and visible. This would easily compromise any funds you would deposit to this scheme. The domain was bought recently on a bitcointalk auction by user Le0nard0 – who was a temporary user, and is administered by Cloud Mining, a member since sep 2014.

It is unlikely that this user has been involved at all in cryptomining as long as they claim, the account dates make no sense. A long time miner would certainly have been a bitcointalk member for a long time as well.

We will look deeper into this operation, but for now we are satisfied that there are too many issues for it to be a genuine operator. Not least the complete lack of protection,

On the lack of SSL alone – I would suggest you avoid this site. I have read tweets from this admin assuring a user that cloudflare is providing SSL – this is untrue, cloudflare simply mask the true IP of the host.
